Product Description

Throughout the hobby, one of the most common nuisance hitchhikers that hobbyists come across are Aiptasia anemones. Some choose the chemical method of using kalkwasser or Aitapsia targeting products to attack back whereas some choose the natural method of hiring these Peppermint Shrimps to hunt down Aiptasia anemones in their tank. Though it will vary from specimen to specimen, Peppermint Shrimps are generally known to consume these pesky hitchhikers, while at the same time, serving as crucial members of the overall clean-up crew. They will also scavenge the tank for detritus, decaying organic matter and waste helping to keep the aquarium parameters up to par. Supplement their diet with occasional serving of other meaty foods.

As the common trade name suggests, their colors are peppermint red but when stressed, will quickly lose all colorations. Be sure to provide them with an aquascape that will allow them to feel secure, such as caves or ledges. They are extremely sensitive to copper-based medications or high ammonia and nitrate levels. In order to encourage proper molting, addition of supplemental iodine is recommend. * This is a representative picture. Approximate purchase sizes will range from ¾’’ to 2’’.
