Product Description

Also known as Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, Blood Shrimp, or Fire Shrimp, Blood Red Fire Shrimps are popular among reefkeepers for their vibrant red colorations. As their name suggests, they set up "cleaning stations" and serve fish, including carnivores, big enough to be cleaned of their dead skin and ectoparasites off of their body. One common misconception to note is that they are also capable of treating ICH. In an aquarium with limited number of cleaning subjects, be sure to supplement their diet with occasional serving of other meaty foods to prevent overcleaning which will ultimately lead to irritating your fish or damaging their skin.

As the common trade name suggests, their colors are vibrant red. Be sure to provide them with an aquascape that will allow them to feel secure, such as caves or ledges. They prefer darker areas of the aquarium, hanging upside down along the rockwork. Unless it is a mated pair, Blood Red Fire Shrimps will usually act aggressively towards other of the same species. They are extremely sensitive to copper-based medications, high ammonia and nitrate levels. In order to encourage proper molting, addition of supplemental iodine is recommend. * This is a representative picture. Approximate purchase sizes will range from ¾’’ to 2’’.
